HBCU Football Schedule Week 8

Bethune-Cookman 35, Alcorn State 31

Bethune-Cookman picked up its first win of the season with a 35-31 win over Alcorn State. The Wildcats were down 17-7 at halftime and later trailed 31-21 before rallying to win the game. Bethune-Cookman QB Shannon Patrick threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns completing 64 percent of his passes.

South Carolina State 15, Howard 12

South Carolina State remains undefeated in MEAC play with a 15-12 victory. It was a defensive struggle for both teams, but the Bulldogs came away with a win. The Bulldogs can clinch a Celebration Bowl berth before the last week of the regular season if Norfolk State loses next week.

North Carolina Central 38, Norfolk State 36 (2OT)

In a two-overtime thriller, North Carolina Central came away with the win. In the first overtime, Norfolk State had a chance to win the game, but its kicker missed what would have been the game-winning extra point attempt. In the second overtime, a Norfolk State penalty forced the Spartan two-point try to occur from the 18-yard line; the Spartans could not convert. 

North Carolina Central RB Isaiah Totten scored a touchdown in the second overtime and QB Davius Richard threw a two point conversion to win the game.

North Carolina A&T 21, Charleston Southern 18

North Carolina A&T ended its losing streak with this Week 10 win. The Aggie defense held Charleston Southern to just 147 total yards; LB Jacob Roberts had three sacks.

Hampton 27, Gardner-Webb 21 (OT)

Hampton knocked off Big South foe Gardner-Webb in overtime this week. Close games have been a theme for the Pirates this season; Hampton RB Keyondre White ran 25 yards for the game-winning touchdown in overtime. 

Jackson State 41, Texas Southern 21

Texas Southern kept the game close before Jackson State pulled away for the win. Jackson State QB Shedeur Sanders threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns.

Alabama A&M 42, Mississippi Valley State 14

For the second straight week, Alabama A&M scored 42 point in a winning effort. Bulldog QB Aqeel Glass has found his groove again, throwing for 332 yards and four touchdowns.

UT Martin 41, Tennessee State 20

Tennessee State's four game winning streak game to an end against nationally ranked UT Martin. The Tigers are probably out of the OVC title race with the loss.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff 33, Grambling State 26

Arkansas-Pine Bluff won a game for the first time since Week 1. Golden Lion QB Skyler Perry accounted for four touchdowns in the win. Grambling State was once again with out freshman QB Noah Bodden.

Prairie View A&M 24, Alabama State 20

Prairie View A&M avoided a scare and maintains control of the SWAC west with a victory over Alabama State. Alabama State lost its first game since firing its head coach. The Panthers can clinch a SWAC championship game appearance with a win next.

Florida A&M 29, Southern 17

Florida A&M defeated Southern 29-17. The Rattlers shut down Southern's potent rushing attack, limiting the Jaguars to 90 yards on the ground. Florida A&M has won six in a row.
