Florida on Thursday reported 562 more deaths and 2,021 additional COVID-19 cases to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.

All but 219 of the newly reported deaths — about 61% — occurred since Sept. 30, according to the Herald analysis. About 33% of the newly reported have died in the past two weeks, the analysis showed.

In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,645,212 confirmed COVID cases and 59,495 deaths.

In the past seven days, the state has added, on average, 127 deaths and 1,731 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida

There were 2,209 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to a Thursday report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which compiled data from 260 Florida hospitals. Hospitalized COVID patients dropped by 45 from Tuesday’s report, when 234 hospitals submitted data. This continues a trend of decreasing hospitalizations.

COVID-19 patients take up 3.80% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 4.13% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals.

Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 565 people were in intensive care unit beds, a decrease of 14. That represents about 9.01% of the state’s ICU hospital beds, compared to 9.27% the previous day.
